My initial  impression of “Gerontion” is that Elliot was going through the seasons with this poem.  First he talks about being an old man in a dry month and I assume it’s fall around October.  There’s a couple of transitions in the poem that talks about the month of May, then spring arrives and the poem ends with snow on the ground in a still decayed house.  I suggest the poem is talking about living under these conditions year around and the time frame is around late nineteenth century to early 20th century.  Elliot is describing how life was in those times and the good and bad that come with it.
