In section II of “The Waste Land” called “A Game of Chess,” a conversation occurs between two women (starting at about line 139, all the way to the end of the section) who are sitting in a public place (and we know this because the barman or waiter/waitress is pressing them to “hurry up please,” as though it’s last call….).  What is going on in this dialogue?  Can you untangle it and provide a simple summary in prose?  Look to your own understanding for this — I don’t want someone else’s interpretation discovered from the Internet.  Be a careful, patient reader and just try to have fun figuring it out….
